The Historical Downtown of Guatemala City TEXTO EN CASTELLANO (Text in english Below) Mucho se dice, y se ha dicho del CENTRO HISTORICO DE GUATEMALA, pero la realidad, es que los que vivimos y trabajamos en EL ESPACIO URBANO QUE VA DE NORTE A SUR DESDE DEL HIPODROMO DEL NORTE HASTA EL CENTRO CIVICO, Y DE OESTE A ESTE, DE LA AVENIDA ELENA ZONA 1 A LA DOCE AVENIDA ZONA 1, somos en su mayoria gente decente, trabajadora y honrada, que como en cualquier GRAN CIUDAD DEL MUNDO, encuentra, partes feas e inseguras (POR CULPA EN REALIDAD DE LA MALA ADMINISTRACION MUNICIPAL Y DEL MINISTERIO DE GOBERNACION) y partes hermosas y muy tranquilas. A continuación, vana encontrar una serie de fotografias de N.R.DL., quien gustosa nos regala su arte, para engalanar este Web Site de Casa Katharina, una casa mas, como la mayoria del Centro Historico de la Ciudad de Guatemala: Muy linda, muy segura y muy tranquila, cerca de todo, con mucho para ver ir a ver cerca, y sobre todo, en un lugar donde la gente, AUN CAMINA y SALUDA... y mejor aún ¡ LE IMPORTAS COMO VECINA ! [][][][][][][][][] TEXT IN ENGLISH A lot is said, and told about the HISTORORICAL DOWNTOWN OF GUATEMALA CITY, but in reality, for all of us who work and live in the URBAN SPACE that goes from north to south BETWEEN THE HIPODROMO DEL NORTE (THE HORSE RACETRACK OF THE NORTH ) to the CIVIC CENTER, AND FROM WEST TO EAST FROM LA AVENIDA ELENA ZONA 1 TO 12 AVENUE ZONA 1, are in a great mayority decent, hard working folks, that like at any other LARGE CITY IN THE WORLD, find every day, ugly and not safe "parts" of town (TO BLAME THE CITY HALL AND OUR MINISTRY OF GOVERMENT) and parts, that are beautiful and very quiet. Next you will a series of photographs by N.R.DL., one of our distinguished guests, who gladly gave us as a gift this wonderful series of photos, to adorn our Web Site, that represente JUST ONE MORE HOUSE, like most of the houses in the historical downtown of Guatemala City: Very pretty, very safe and very quiet, "close to it all", with a lot to go see close by, and above all, in a part of town, where people STILL WALKS and WAVES "GOOD DAY"... and better yet, CARE ! The old head of power in all the Country Este es LA PLAZA MAYOR, a la derecha, puedes ver una parte del Palacio Nacional. Al centro, LA FUENTE DEL PALACIO, parte del conjunto arquitectonico, originalmente mucho mas alta pues "le quitaron" cuatro de sus copas, quedando ahora solo con las tres que aqui ves. Al fondo, puedes ver LA CONCHA ACUSTICA donde hay conciertos de orquesta y marimba, especialmente los domingos y dias festivos por la tarde. Puede ver tambien LA BANDERA DE GUATEMALA. Esta plaza es el diseño de la última remodelación de la misma, en 1983. La PLAZA MAYOR ESTA A 800 PASOS EN LINEA RECTA DE CASA KATHARINA, sobre la 6a Avenida. [][][][][][][] This is the LA PLAZA MAYOR (The largest plaza), to the right, you can see a part of the National Palace, from 1943. To the center if the FOUNTAIN OF THE PALACE, part of the original architechtonical ensemble, originally much higher since " four of the tops where taken", now only remain, the three parts you see. To the bottom you can see the ACOUSTIC COUNCH or "LA CONCHA ACUSTICA" where concerts are played, specially on sunday and holiday afternoons. You may also see the NATIONAL FLAG OF GUATEMALA. The Metropolitan Cathedral Espiritual Refuge, Fortress of Catholic Art  La Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de Guatemala esta ubicada al OESTE de la PLAZA MAYOR, por ende, al amanecer, es muy conmovedor ver surgir al sol tras de ella, o a la luna... Despierta un día temprano, y No te lo pierdas! La Catedral esta a 800 pasos de Casa Katharina, en línea recta. [][][][][][] The Metropolitan Cathedral of Guatemala City, is located to the WEST of the PLAZA MAYOR, therefore, at dawn, is deeply spirtitual to see the sun raise from behind of it, or the moon... Primer Centro Comercial de la Ciudad

The Arcade of Commerce First Mall in the City  Al Sur de la Plaza Mayor, esta EL PORTAL DEL COMERCIO, el primer centro comercial de la Ciudad. Aqui, un reciente trabajo de restauracion nos deja este fantastico viaje al Pasado. En su interior, uno de los lugares favoritos de la Dueñas, Sophia y Schoschi, EL BAR EL PORTAL. En el BAR EL PORTAL, almorzar el SABADO A MEDIO DIA, es todo un deleite, Palomas al Jerez, Cerveza Morena de Barril y MUSICA DE MARIMBA, ¡ Salud ! [][][][][][][][] South of the Plaza Mayor, is the PORTAL DEL COMERCIO or Arcade of Commerce, the first shopping mall of the city back in 1776. Here, a recent work of restauration leave us with this Journey to the Past. Inside, you will find one of the favourite places of the owners , Sophia y Schoschi, BAR EL PORTAL. At BAR EL PORTAL, having LUNCH SATURDAY NOON, is a whole experience, Pigeons with sherry sauce and Medium Dark Draft Beer "Cerveza Morena de Barril" y and LIVE MARIMBA MUSIC, Cheers!  Esta es otra vista del SUR DE LA PLAZA MAYOR, aqui puedes ver los casi 100mts de Galeria comercial del PORTAL DEL COMERCIO, donde encontrarás Telas para fabricar tus propios vestidos, ropa, zapatos, equipo y accesorios para Fotografia KODAK, telefonos celulares y sus accesorios, en fin, de todo un poco hay aqui, con interminables horas de comodo shopping.
